Don't count your chickens...

All that stuff about being excited about school and ready to start my thesis and being happy? I spoke too soon...

I have switched thesis topics and class schedules three times now. Currently my schedule is organic chemistry, invertebrate zoology and thesis tutorial and my thesis is on behavioral color pattern displays in feather blennies. This does not sound that bad until you factor in the number of days organic meets each week (five), my gen chem retention rate (zero), and the amount of blennies currently alive in the bay for me to study (also zero).

There is light, though. I'm working for Duke again, this time as TA for a weekend-long class here at New College. I'm turning the idea of teaching around in my head, looking at all sides of it. Five years ago I would have scoffed at the idea of being a teacher. Hell, even five months ago! But now... those three weeks with the kids up in Beaufort changed my outlook. I still worry about my capacity to do it for a long time - my patience wears thin very quickly - but finding out I have the capacity to do it at all is pretty cool.
